The Girls from Hey Mr Christmas

Here are the girls that sang on Showaddywaddy's Christmas offering for 1974, "Hey Mr Christmas". On the label of the record, it says the girls are from The National Childrens Home Harpenden Choir.

On the back of the photo there is a press release, which reads:

  • Showaddywaddy's Christmas Gift - November 19th 1974. London, Tuesday, PA:
Showaddywaddy in London today with six members of the children's choir of the Harpenden branch of the National Children's Home, who provide backing of the group's new single, "Hey Mr Christmas". The disc has a real Santa Claus touch, for the group who found fame and fortune via tv's New Faces show, are to give a percentage of the royalties to the NCH. The girls will be hoping to emulate the group in the near future, when as 'The Sovereign Collection', they have their own single released.

The Guinness Book of British Hit Singles lists one entry for 'The Sovereign Collection', but this is for a single released three years earlier in 1971, called 'Mozart 40'. It reached number 27 in the charts.

If you are one of the girls on the photo, let me know, and if you have a story to tell about the day you recorded it, I will be more than happy to give it a feature on the website.
